The worst aspects of human nature will always emerge on the part of some employers and employees if there are no checks and balances. Develop clear universal guidelines and enforceable laws developed to moderate and control the employment arena. Reward employers for paying wages rather than penalising. Make paying wages more attractive than other expenditure.
Private health insurance is becoming more expensive and is struggling to compete with the public system. Access to quality health care in this age, is a ‘primary need’ not one that should be dependent on personal wealth.
Anyone who has worked, and paid tax should be entitled to a retirement income, with the minimum an adequate pension. Other countries do it; why can’t we? In Australia, the government clearly got it wrong. They devised a superannuation system which was supposed to achieve self-funded retirement for most people. It has not and will not.
This day would recognise the background and heritage of all Australians and our nation. This, with the Queen’s blessing—well, before she passes. It would also be an opportunity to address the many things that are not quite right and start anew in many regards.
Solutions that are intrinsically racist and separatist are not what are needed. An outside-the-box idea to help might include employing mainly First Nation people in the next-phase solution. So, after the initial largely symbolic but essential inclusion in any republic or new constitution and flag, then the real work could begin. Australians must look forward together.
Well, talk about the elephant in the room. Economic, political, and social excuses and denial are no longer acceptable. Incumbents take the safe road, upset as few people as possible, be politically correct, and survive another term.
The idea of a republic has been floated before, and there is no better time than now to make changes that redefine Australian values and thinking.
Nuclear energy, is a solution that eradicates carbon emissions, complements renewable s, and once installed provides the cheapest reliable power for Australians and Australian industry in an environmentally friendly, sustainable way. Yes, the installation cost is high but long term we would leave our children with the means to be more a competitive Australia on the world stage … as well as becoming world leaders in the minimising of carbon emissions.
